2011 City RepTrak™:
Reputation Institute's Comprehensive Study of
City Reputations

Reputation Institute's pioneering consultants offer an array of analytic tools which advise clients on building successful reputation management strategies. We have developed City RepTrak™, a study which takes Reputation Institute's proven corporate reputation model a step further to assess the reputation of a city with stakeholders. Insights generated through the City RepTrak™ study provide the first steps in developing a strong city reputation.

Reputation Institute's city studies have concluded that in order to attract more business, tourism, knowledge workers and capital—cities should work strategically to build their reputation:
  • Identify relevant stakeholders and understand their perceptions
  • Assess and articulate competitive strengths and point of difference
  • Align activities with strategy and stakeholder expectations
  • Build KPIs to ensure accountability
  • Monitor success on an ongoing basis

Doing this can substantially increase cities' return on their investment by increasing the city's FDI, GDP, tourism receipts and taxes.

City RepTrak™ is a proprietary measurement system developed by Reputation Institute to assess the reputations of cities. Its principal objective is to provide a detailed understanding of:
  • Variety of perceptions people have of cities
  • Relative competitiveness of cities on 13 key dimensions
  • Underlying drivers that shape public perceptions of cities
  • Amount of support a city can expect to generate from its reputation in the form of business, travel, tourism and investment.
This study relates to these organizations:
  • Municipalities and Local Government bodies
  • City administrators
  • Regional tourism boards
  • City promotion agencies
  • City investment agencies
